BRITISH COLUMBIA THERAPEUTIC TOUCH NETWORK BYLAWS The mission of the BCTTN is to
promote and accept Therapeutic Touch as developed by Dora Kunz and Dolores
Kreiger, while recognizing that we are a part of a network of energy-based
healing communities. Article I. Name
The organization shall be called the British Columbia
Therapeutic Touch Network (BCTTN). Article II. Logo
The following shall be the logo of the BCTTN
Article III. Goals and Objectives
Goal 1. To provide a fostering and supporting community for those interested in learning and using Therapeutic Touch in B.C.Objectives: We will: 1)
Foster the growth of BCTTN through encouraging members to share
information and experiences 2) Develop a membership base that includes TT teachers, experienced practitioners and people new to the practice of TT. 3)
Identify and solicit members interested in organizational
responsibilities. 4) Promote the formation and
development of practice/support groups within the
network. 5)
Maintain a computerized database on membership and
resources. 6)
Liaise with other integrative healing groups. 7)
Encourage feedback from membership, practitioners, clients and
communities on a regular basis. Goal 2.
To promote the ongoing educational
opportunities for
teachers and practitioners.
Objectives: We will: 1) Provide a TT
curriculum founded on Krieger/Kunz Therapeutic Touch and contemporary
principles of adult education. 2) Promote and
support the ethical practice of TT in B.C. 3) Collaborate with
TT teachers across the province in implementing this TT and curriculum as
standard or norm, while still respecting individual creativity and
experience. 4) Develop a
mentoring process for people wanting to start teaching TT or wishing to
further develop their skills within a supportive environment. 5) Identify and
develop a list of BCTTN teachers who use the Krieger/Kunz
method. 6) Encourage the
continuing development of TT skills through Networking Days, Teachers and
Practitioner Workshops/Retreats. 7) Provide
information on workshops through the BCTTN newsletter and
website. 8) Develop a list of
speakers/presenters on TT. 9) Compile TT information resources for member access/loan and referral purposes. 10) Develop a list of educational institutions
that provide
courses on TT. 11) Collaborate with CTTN as this
organization develops. Goal 3. To provide a TT
resource for the community. Objectives: We will: 1) Raise and increase awareness of TT and the Network through advertisements, newsletters, the website, brochures, and participation in wellness fairs and public events. 2) Connect clients
with practitioners. 3) Provide names of
speakers/resource people. 4) Develop an inventory of hospitals, care facilities and agencies that provide TT. Goal 4. To encourage
research in TT
Objectives: We will: 1) Encourage practitioners to document and to indicate
areas for possible research. 2) Identify practitioners with research skills and
interests. 3) Liaise with and provide links with clinical
researchers. 4) Collect research data wherever possible, as a

Section I. Qualifications
As a non-profit, non-sectarian
organization with no restrictions relating to race, creed, color,
religion, gender or lifestyle choices, BCTTN membership shall be open to
all who have completed a course in TherapeuticTouch. Section II. Classes of members
The Executive Council may determine classes of membership and qualifications dues. The dues structure for each class of members shall be determined by the Executive Council. Classes of membership include 1) Full $40 2) Seniors ( 0ver 60) $30 3) Students ( with submission of student card) $30
Section III. Rights and Privileges of
Members
Members may: Hold office when selected and serve on committees when appointed subject to the qualifications established by the Bylaws for the particular office or committee
Section IV Conduct of
Members
A member in good standing is one
who, in the judgment of the Executive Council, conducts himself/herself in
a professionally ethical manner, and actively supports the BCTTN by interest,
presence, and/or participation. If a complaint is made in writing
against a BCTTN member relating to their TT practice, the Executive will
investigate.
Criteria from the BCTTN bylaws/Standards and Code of Ethics will be
used. The
due process may include: 2) an informal hearing b) a problem solving
process and c) an action strategy and time frame which can be
evaluated. Section V Annual Membership

Article V. Executive Council
Section I. Composition
The business and affairs of the BCTTN shall be managed by the Executive Council. The Executive Council shall include a maximum of eleven (11) members. Section II. Selection of Executive
Council.
All Executive Council members should have knowledge and skill related to the position they are applying for or is willing to learn (i.e. Mentors). It is understood that the members will promote Therapeutic Touch and the B.C. T. T. N.; perform additional duties requested by the Executive Council; expedite business in a way that is cognizant of the rights and dignity of members and agreed upon rules of conduct; and carry out all duties in a timely and efficient manner. Section III. Executive Council Members The Executive Council of the BCTTN shall constitute the Officers of the BCTTN, which shall be: 1. Chairperson 2. Past Chairperson 3. Treasurer 4. Secretary 5. Education/Curriculum 6. Membership Coordinator 7. Public Relations Coordinator 8. Research Coordinator 9. Practice Group Coordinator 10. Member-at-Large Coordinator 11.

Leaders
B. There shall be eleven (10) regions represented in the province REGION 1
(VANCOUVER) Covers
the Lower Mainland up to Pemberton on the North, Sechelt on the West
and the Port Mann Bridge on the East. REGION 4
(SOUTH ISLAND) Covers
the whole area South of Courtenay. C. Each leader shall liaise with the Member - at - Large. D. Each leader is expected to act in an ethical and responsible way. 1. Being familiar with the BCTTN purpose and Bylaws. 2. Communicate, cooperate and support each others efforts. 3. Stay abreast of the BCTTN activities through reports, meetings and other forms of communications. 4. Maintain active membership in the BCTTN by paying dues. 5. Functions within the guidelines of their office as stipulated in their Job Description. 6. Keep
records and receipts of all job related activites Section V. Responsibilities of the Executive
Council Members. A. Attend the Annual General Meeting and three (3) Executive Council or Conference Call meetings. B. Fulfill the responsibilities of following
Job Descriptions: B.C.T.T.N. -
Chairperson The Chairperson is chosen for her/his ability to preside and be familiar with how to develop and maintain a non-profit organization, and how to facilitate consensus building as a decision-making process, and must also be experienced in the practice of Therapeutic Touch and issues related to the practice. The presiding officer: § opens the meeting at the appointed time, having
ascertained that there is a quorum present § reviews and requests approval of the Agenda and the
Minutes of the last meeting § states recommendations for action(s) and announces a
consensus decision § acknowledges consensus that the meeting is finished § will have at hand, at each meeting: a) a copy of
the By Laws for the Executive Council and the B.C.T.T.N. Mission
Statement b) a list of all standing committees and special work groups and their members. c) the Agenda
for the meeting and any material related to it. 6) authenticates, by her/his signature,
when necessary, any documents necessary to transact the business of the
Network including the co-signing of cheques with the
Treasurer. 7) facilitates
the development and evaluation of the annual B.C.T.T.N. work plan and
completes the annual report. 8) assures an
audit is done annually to be presented at the Executive Council meeting
immediately following the AGM. B.C.T.T.N. - Past
Chairperson The
position of the Past Chairperson is assumed, for a two year period, by the
previous Chairperson at the end of his/her tenure, in order to provide
continuity between newly elected Executive Council and to provide history
and support to the Chairperson at the policy and practice levels. The
Past Chairperson: 1) acts as a resource to the
Chairperson and other Executive Council members around B.C.T.T.N. policy
and practice, Executive Council Terms of Reference and provides historical
context to the goals and objectives and directions taken by
B.C.T.T.N. 2) acts as a
back up to the Chairperson in terms of taking on delegated duties, if no
Member-at-Large is available to do so. 3) facilitates
and monitors the election of officers at Annual Networking
Meetings. 4) has equal
decision-making capacity to other members of the
Executive Council. 5) will
agree to take on special projects as required, on behalf of the Network,
according to his/her capacity, e.g. Incorporation of B.C.T.T.N.,
development of TT Policy Statements, etc. B.C.T.T.N. Treasurer The
Treasurer should have knowledge and experience in bookkeeping. This may be
learned through personal, family, organizational, or business experience.
She/he will be responsible for keeping accurate financial records. This
entails recording all revenues and expenditures in sufficient detail to
meet the needs of the B.C.T.T.N. and provincial and federal
regulations. The
Treasurer: 1)
collects,
deposits, and records all monies, including membership
fees. 2)
issues
receipts as required. 3) pays all
approved expenditures. 4) holds all
funds of the B.C.T.T.N. in a reputable bank or financial institution in
the name of the B.C.T.T.N. All accounts must be registered under the names
of the Chairperson and the Treasurer. Both of these signatures are
required on any chequing accounts. 5) renders a
written account of all transactions and the financial position of the
B.C.T.T.N. on a quarterly and annual basis and as required by the
Executive Council of B.C.T.T.N. Renders a verbal account of same as
required. 6) prepares
all financial documents. 7) prepares
budget and grant applications in collaboration with the Executive
Cou Council. 8) coordinates
fund raising activities. 9) in consultation
with the members of the Executive Council prepares correspondence related
to the finances of the B.C.T.T.N. 10) informs all Executive Council members of the procedure for submitting invoices/bills. B.C.T.T.N. Secretary The
Secretary should have good writing skills, experience in taking formal
minutes, follow a set protocol as determined by the Executive Council,
have computer skills, and access to a fax machine. The
Secretary: 1) takes
minutes at all meetings of the Executive Council. In her/his
absence will arrange with a Member-At-Large or Past Chairperson to assume
recording responsibilities. 2) has charge of
the Minute Books of the organization, all official documents, policies and
procedures of the B.C.T.T.N. Executive Council. 3) seeks input from the Chairperson regarding the first draft of the minutes and distributes minutes of all meetings with enclosed reports of the Executive Council to said B.C.T.T.N. Executive Council members. 4) keeps the
official minute book up-to-date. The secretary will bring this to each
meeting for reference as needed. 5) keeps all
committee reports on file. 6) in consultation
with the members of the Executive Council conducts correspondence of the
organization, except that which is an appropriate function of other
offices or committees. 7) signs all
contracts, documents, or instruments in writing that require the
Secretary’s signature. B.C.T.T.N. Membership
Coordinator The
Membership Coordinator should have experience in or be willing to learn
the ACCESS database software program. She/he must have computer skills and
access to a computer and a fax machine. The
Membership Coordinator: 1)
registers
members: a)
prepares
and distributes covering letter and information package. b) welcomes new
members with a letter and a receipt submitted by
the Treasurer. c) sends out
annual membership renewal forms
and information
packages. d)
the contents of
the membership packages are
enveloped/revised in
collaboration with the Executive Council.
2) develops a
database of membership information and updates it with relevant
renewal information. 3) relays
relevant information to appropriate Chairs of standing committees or
Executive Council members such as: committees or positions that members have identified a willingness to particiate in: a) support groups: i)
makes
available information about existing support groups. ii)
identifies members who wish to start a support
group. iii)
directs members who wish to start or join a support
group to Support Group Coordinator. b)
makes
available information from registration forms on existing TT practitioners
and teachers. c)
identifies
practitioners with research skills and interests. 4) sends
updated membership list to TTNO for In Touch
mail out. 5) retains a
supply of various membership packages and a stationery etc. as
necessary for mail outs. 6) coordinates yearly membership drive. B.C.T.T.N. - Education
Coordinator The
Education Coordinator should have a broad educational base, expertise in
teaching Therapeutic Touch, experience in or access to expertise in
setting standards and curriculum development, an ability to be creative,
and good oral and written communication skills. The
Education Coordinator and/or an Education Committee is responsible for
supporting the teaching, learning, and clarifying of Krieger-Kunz
Therapeutic Touch. The
Education Coordinator/committee: 1)
maintains lists of members of B.C.T.T.N. who are practitioners and
teachers and where they practice. 2)
refers practitioners and teachers to current guidelines regarding
levels of Therapeutic Touch education (Nurse Healers Professional
Associates and Therapeutic Touch Network Ontario) and
BCTTN. 3)
in cooperation with the Research Coordinator, reviews and
recommends handouts for the various Therapeutic Touch levels making sure
copyrights and authors are acknowledged. 4)
encourages students, practitioners, and teachers of Therapeutic
Touch to document TT treatments. 5)
acts as a resource person for Therapeutic Touch
Practitioners. 6)
maintains a liaison with Education Coordinators of other
Therapeutic Touch Networks and Nurse Healers Professional
Associates. 7)
assists B.C.T.T.N. Executive Council in events related to the
education of the members. 8)
in
consultation with the Public Relations/Newsletter Coordinator and Website
Manager publishes information about Therapeutic Touch in the B.C.T.T.N.
brochure, in News Bulletins, In touch
Newsletter and the B.C.T.T.N. website. B.C.T.T.N. – Practice Group
Coordinator The Practice/Support Group Coordinator
should have leadership skills, experience in problem solving and
facilitating groups, adhere to Krieger-Kunz method of Therapeutic Touch,
encourage networking, collegial support, and mentoring amongst Therapeutic
Touch Practitioners. ThePractice/Support Group Coordinator: 1)
in consultation with other Support Group Facilitators, establishes
guidelines for the development and maintenance of Support
Groups. 2)
maintains an updated list of support groups: their meeting times,
location, and contact persons. 3)
acts as a resource person to support groups. 4)
in consultation with the Public Relations/Newsletter Coordinator
and Website Manager, advertises support groups and writes or obtains
articles about B.C. groups for TT newsletter e.g. In touch, Cooperative Connection, B.C.T.T.N. News
bulletin; and B.C.T.T.N. website. 5)
on request provides names of identified practitioners and teachers
to clients, doctors, nurses in private practice, hospitals, health units,
colleges, and universities. 6)
informs Executive Council about ongoing practice
issues. 7)
liaises with Regional Representatives and Education Coordinator
regarding support group and practice issues on a regular
basis. B.C.T.T.N. Research
Coordinator The Research Coordinator should
have a sound understanding of research concepts and when necessary be
prepared to consult with experienced researchers who have been involved in
some aspect of Therapeutic Touch or other energy-based research.
The Research Coordinator: 1)
contacts and maintains a liaison with the Research Coordinator of
other Therapeutic Touch organizations i.e. Therapeutic Touch Network of
Ontario, Nurse Healers Professional Associates, etc. and encourages
information exchange. 2)
maintains a collection of scientific papers, theises, Therapeutic
Touch bibliographies, and studies related to Therapeutic
Touch. 3)
actively searches for research in Therapeutic Touch by reading
current credible journals (e.g. Advances, ISSSEEM (International Society
for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine), Journals of
Alternative Therapies, etc.); with the approval of the Executive Council
subscribes to or purchases necessary magazines and print
materials. 4)
obtains written permission to copy/reprint research articles in
B.C.T.T.N. News bulletins, the In Touch
Newsletter, or other journals. Articles to be included are decided in
cooperation with the editor of the Newsletter or the Website Manager. 5)
collects and sorts case studies and anecdotal experiences of
Therapeutic Touch submitted by B.C.T.T.N. members. 6)
encourages the membership to indicate areas for possible
research. 7)
encourages the membership to do research and provides support and
guidance through referral to identified resource people and written
materials. 8)
maintains a list of people doing research in Therapeutic Touch and
what type of projects they are working on as obtained from membership
forms and other resources. 9)
consults with and refers those interested to Therapeutic Touch
Practitioners who have been/are involved in research of Therapeutic
Touch. 10) writes
articles in B.C.T.T.N. News bulletins or the In
Touch Newsletter and B.C.T.T.N. website describing present research in
Therapeutic Touch and any results. 11) consults
with the Education & Support Group Coordinators and others with
expertise to decide the value of articles and whether they are appropriate
for distribution and inclusion in handouts. 12) keeps the Executive Council aware
of new research. B.C.T.T.N. - Public Relations
Coordinator The
primary focus of the Public Relations (PR) Coordinator is to increase
awareness of Therapeutic Touch and the Network to the public, health
professionals, health institutions, and health education
facilities. The
PR Coordinator: 1)
in consultation with the Executive Council designs, prints, and
distributes Network brochures and B.C.T.T.N. public
documents. 2)
prepares and distributes, as required, all publicity re: Network
special activities such as the annual B.C.T.T.N. Networking
Day. 3)
places B.C.T.T.N. information ads, as required, in appropriate
magazines (i.e. Common Ground, Shared Vision), Alternative Health Service
Directories, Canadian Holistic Nurses Association, and Nurse Healers
Professional Associates Newsletters and other identified publications. 4)
on a yearly basis, or as appropriate, in collaboration with the
Executive Council updates and arranges distribution of information
packages to physicians, chiropractors, osteopaths, naturopaths, nurses in
private practice, and other identified health professionals, B.C. health
institutions, and health professional education programs (i.e. Nursing,
Chiropractic Medicine, Massage Therapy. Physiotherapy.
Etc.) 5)
develops and prepares promotional AV materials (i.e. overhead
transparencies, slides, videos, and audio tapes) for
presentations. 6)
develops and maintains liaison activities with organizations of
other energy-based healing modalities. B.C.T.T.N. – Newsletter Editor 1) solicits, coordinates,
and edits submissions to B.C.T.T.N. News bulletin or
submissions to other publications e.g. In Touch. 2)
in consultation with Website Manager, publishes and distributes
written B.C.T.T.N. information to members and public as
requested. 3)
solicits and coordinates articles from B.C.T.T.N. members about
their experience with Therapeutic Touch and Therapeutic Touch events and
prepares for each publication in In Touch,
B.C.T.T.N. News bulletin and other Newsletters (see # 3
above). B.C.T.T.N. – Regional Leaders
The
Regional Leader should have varied experience including past experience
leading a support group, teaching, and have numerous contacts with other
TT practitioners and teachers in her/his region. The
Regional Leader: 1)
liaises between TT members of the region and the B.C.T.T.N.
Executive Council. This would include sharing information, research,
educational material, future directions of B.C.T.T.N., TT Canada, etc.
This would be done through correspondence, conference calls, and attending
meetings whenever possible. 3)
voices TT issues/needs of member regions. 4)
has regular contact/meetings with TT members in the
region. 5)
raises awareness of Therapeutic Touch and B.C.T.T.N. in her/his
area. 6) acts as a resource person and refers members to the appropriate sources or resource people. 7)
arranges at least one annual regional meeting. 8)
submits regional news to B.C.T.T.N. to include in identified
newsletters or on the B.C.T.T.N. website whenever
appropriate. 9)
attend at least one of the following: i)
Annual
B.C.T.T.N. Networking Day ii)
B.C.T.T.N.
Retreat iii)
Annual
Practitioners Day iv)
B.C.T.T.N.
Teachers Education Day B.C.T.T.N. – Member-at-Large
The
Member-at-Large has past experience in various executive positions on
committees or boards. She/he should also have excellent communication
skills, both oral and in writing, and be familiar with the job
descriptions and ongoing activities of all the other executive positions
on the Executive Council for the B.C.T.T.N. The
Member-at-Large: 1) fulfills the
responsibilities of other members of the Executive Council in the event
that a member, for any reason, vacates the position, is absent or is
unavailable to fulfill the duties described in the B.C.T.T.N. Job
Description for that position. 2) chairs the Executive
Council meetings in the absence of both the Chairperson and Past
Chairperson. 3) assists in coordination of special events such as Networking Days. 4) acts as a resource person to the Executive Council
and network members. 5) assists in the recruitment
of members for Executive Council, standing sub-committees and work groups
as necessary. 6) coordinates election
activities when she/he is not standing for election;
and 7)
contacts and maintains liaison with the Regional Representatives from each
of the eleven B.C.T.T.N. Regions of British Columbia through meetings,
phone calls, e-mails or other forms of correspondence as
necessary.
C. In addition, each Council member is expected to act in a ethical and responsible way:1.By actively participating in the BCTTN consensus decision-making process.2.Being familiar with the BCTTN Goals and Objectives, Code of Ethics and Bylaws.3.Communicate, cooperate and support other's efforts.meetings and other forms of communications.5.Maintain active membership in BCTTN by paying dues6.Function within the guidelines of their office as stipulated in the Job Description7.Keep
records and reports of all job related activities pertaining to their
office to be passed on to the next officer.
Article VI. Executive Council
Meeting
A. An average of six (6) meetings of the Executive Council shall be held during the fiscal year May 1 to April 30.B. Special meetings Executive Council including special meetings by telephone conference call shall be called by the chairperson and/or by any other member of the Executive Council.C. Minutes of Council meetings shall be available to all members upon request.D. At an Executive Council meeting fifty percent (50%) of members shall constitute a quorum.Article VII. Committees and
Councils.
Section I. Establishment of Committees
Any executive Council
member shall organize, chair, or appoint a chair to a committee when it is
deemed necessary to fulfill their responsibilities and the goals of the BCTTN.
Section II. Administration of Committees.A. Eligibility - membership in the BCTTN and expressed interest in the good of the BCTTN shall establish eligibility by a member for committee membership.B. Appointments shall be made at the discretion of the Executive Council member responsible for the committee.C. Quorum –A simple majority of the membership of the committee shall constitute a quorum. D. A
report of all activities and decisions to be regularly submitted to the
Executive Council. Executive minutes are to be maintained
by the Committee.
Article VIII. Contracts, Cheques,
Gifts.
Section I. Contracts. The
authorization for contracts shall be stated in writing by the Executive
Council and the contracts signed by the Chairperson and one other
Executive Council member.
Section II. Cheques and Drafts.A. All cheques, drafts or other orders for payment of money, notes or other evidences of indebtedness issued in the name of the BCTTN shall be under direction of the Treasurer with input from the Chairperson.B. All cheques shall require signature of Treasurer and Chairperson
C. The Executive Council shall accept on behalf of the BCTTN any
contribution, gift, bequest or device for the general purpose of, or
any special purpose of the BCTTN.
Article IX. Fiscal
Year
The
fiscal year of the BCTTN
shall begin on the first (1st) day of May and end on the last day
of April of each year.
Article X. Governance of
Association.
A
simple majority of the quorum at a membership meeting is required to pass
a motion.
Article XI. Amendments.
These Bylaws shall be amended or replaced in whole or in part by open discussion of the Executive Council at a special meeting called for this purpose. At least two (2) weeks written notice must be given to each member of the Executive Council. Article XII. Dissolution
In the
event of a dissolution and liquidation of the BCTTN and after paying or adequately
providing for all debts and obligations of the BCTTN, all assets of the BCTTN shall be
transferred and conveyed to the Canadian Therapeutic Touch
Network.
