Announcing $150
Grants
Available to the Regions
To attend the Spring Conference
Your Board of Directors has been looking at Regional development
ideas that would help develop and support our members’ TT
skills and also further develop the practice of TT in 8 BC regions
(outside of the Lower Mainland -Vancouver area and the Fraser
Valley). Therefore the Board has decided to offer a $150 grant
to one person from each of the 8 regions listed on the next page
to help with their costs of attending the Spring Conference in
Burnaby on Apr 24, 2010 (region boundaries are defined in more
detail in the November issue of “Shifts
in Energy”). If no one from a region applies for the
grant, then a second person from another region will get the
grant. So a total of 8 grants are available for anyone to apply
for though existing regional reps have priority. We recognize
that it costs regional members more to travel to the Conference
than for local members. We hope these grants will be a strong
incentive for people to attend that might otherwise not go.
Maria Arrington
Maria Arrington is going to be such a great speaker
at the Spring Conference that we wanted to make sure that her knowledge
reaches around the province. It is expected that the people who receive
the grants will in fact ensure the information learned is distributed
in their region to other members and especially teachers. Mary
Leslie told me “the repercussions of what we learned the last time
Maria was here are still being felt to this day”. We
want to ensure this is a province-wide experience this time.
Applying for a Grant
Application requests should be sent to Gail McGrath by email at gmcgrath@uniserve.com or
by mail to 4340 Mahon Ave Burnaby BC V5G3R2. Please
tell us a little about your TT background, why you want to attend
the conference and how you think it will help you and your region
as well as the name of the region you are from and the usual contact
information ensuring your phone number is included. Applications
must be received in writing or email by Feb 20 th so that you can
be contacted in time to still register for the early bird rate deadline
of Feb 28 and realize more savings. It will also be on a first come
first served basis so get your applications in a.s.a.p. Hope to see
you at the Conference.
Regional Representatives
In the future, we want to ensure that all regional reps have the
option of using these grants to attend our annual conference as a
perk of the job to ensure the information makes it back to the regions
they represent. We would like to develop these positions so they
are helpful resources for their region. Please consider being a regional
representative for your region so we have a means of disseminating
information thru out BC on a regular basis to all our members. We
would like to financially support an educational day or other developmental
gathering in the regions. Funds were set aside for regional development
but only one rep has plans so far of applying for funds at this point.
We need regional reps to be the main contact for a region and to
help plan a project in their area. You know best what your region
could benefit from rather than those of us in the Vancouver area
planning something for you that may not be what you want. There is
a full job description available upon request but each rep will develop
the job as they go along. Would love to hear from you.
The 8 Eligible Regions are:
- Region 3 - North Vancouver Island
- Region 4 – South Vancouver Island
- Region 5 – Okanagan
- Region 6 – Kootenays West
- Region 7 – Kootenays East
- Region 8 – Interior
- Region 9 – Cariboo
- Region 10 – Northern BC
